“People display things on things for focus, and we keep things in things for safe keeping. These small choices are as old as people. They encourage us to appreciate the value of the objects we own. This is a hanging dresser, with three small box drawers. Historically a hanging dresser was found in homes that didn’t have cupboards or wall surfaces on which you could attach shelves. It is called Prìseil, which means ‘most precious’ in Scots Gaelic. Today it is a piece of furniture whose original purpose no longer exists. We all have flat walls, too much stuff and not enough cupboards and shelves to house it.” Tom Addy
Stirlingshire Ash, Deeside Elm.
Height 55cm, width 110cm, depth 18cm. Each drawer is 10cm in height and 34cm in width.
Prìseil was first shown at Bard as part of the group exhibition The Grit and The Glamour in November 2023.
