Laurence Veitch Sitrus Stools

Laurence’s Sitrus Stools are hand-sculpted from Ash, naturally ebonised and with custom-made orange resin segments by Mirrl Ltd. inserted into the seats. We fell in love with them for several reasons. They have a reassuring, sturdy solidity to them which, even for our diminutive bottoms, we find rare in most backless stools. The profile of the legs is extraordinary, skilfully jointed, then roughly whittled as if hewn from a single piece of wood.

The carvings underseat make for a very pleasing tactile stroke. And then we learnt they were inspired by Laurence’s fascination with comedian stools and we loved them even more. In his own words, Laurence explains: “I was aiming at something potent by juxtaposing many elements: dark/light, moody/bright, earthly/alien, rough/smooth. To achieve this, I used a fairly wide range of techniques – turning, hewing, carving, grinding, polishing, CNC-routing.” The resulting stools are definitely beyond the butt of any joke(r)…
