Iona McVean TAMNA

The stoneware lamp bases by Iona bear the echoes of her tidal finds from walks along the Atlantic coastlines of the Hebrides. 'The discovery of the bleached whale bones and fluorescent fishnets caught in the rocks reappear in the forms of my ceramic lamp bases,' explains the young designer, who builds her sculptural lamp bases by hand and fires them in her grandmother's kiln. Each lamp base has its own character and we are drawn to this one for its geological energy and the elemental quality of its tactile, mat glaze, as if smoothed by the tides.
