‘The texture on the ash pot is a reference from some of the earliest decoration on pottery forms,’ Jonathan Wade of Ingot Objects explains. ‘It is derived from a piece of rope rolled between the palm and the fresh surface of the clay. Here, a cord-wrapped wooden paddle was used to beat the walls against a small 'anvil' held in the other hand inside the pot. This thins and compresses the walls, and gives shape and texture during coil-building.’
Diameter 41cm, height 34cm.
