Daniel Freyne Layered Iron Bowl

By his own admission Daniel Freyne is interested in subverting archetypes, and playing with our expectations of materials and their properties. Exhibit A: his extraordinary Layered Bowl. Made from forged iron, beaten into bowl form, the heavy object appears to float atop its rounded bottom. The bowl’s interior shows the faintest echoes of the individual iron leaves – the effect is almost like an imprint or casting of woodgrain. The rim and exterior show the multitude of layers that have comprised the form, like laminated pastry or reams of paper.
