“The Town Councillor is based on a wassail pot. He has six handles and little feet and a neck. Around the neck is a silver necklace with brass and copper pendants. I’ve called this piece “The Town Councillor” because it has a chunky mayoral personality. It is a decorative rather than functional piece, though I can imagine it holding big dried hydrangeas or something substantial and dramatic. I am enjoying working with metals and making jewellery. It’s an interesting place to explore ideas around class, good taste and poor taste and who that is dictated by. The reach of glamour is something I’m drawn to. I aim for an over the top-ness in my work to play with perceived ideas of what’s beautiful or tasteful.” Morven Mulgrew
