Manifesto Mycelium Candlestick

The Mycelium Candlestick is an individual candle holder inspired by the complex system of roots that connect fungi together deep underground. Made from terracotta crank clay and white slip, the ethereal nest of coils has an enigmatic, subterranean quality, brought to life in the flickering candlelight within the darkness.

What is your favourite aspect of Scottish winter?

“The atmosphere in the studio changes dramatically over the course of autumn and into winter, with dark mornings and afternoons inviting the opportunity to work by candlelight and incense. Tracking how each season progresses and changes in the studio is perhaps one of my favourite pass times whilst working, and winter brings along a contrast with summer that is felt deeply. The sun becomes a sparser companion over the course of November, and by December it visits for only a few minutes at a time. When the sun does arrive in the studio, it brings along a greater appreciation of its qualities. In winter, you notice all the more how the sun picks through the leaves in the clematis hanging over the studio window, creating glowing shadows on the opposite wall, or you truly appreciate the warmth it brings to your face, before darting quickly across the wall and away again.”
