Our pure new wool blankets are the culmination of a three-stage parsing process, from landscape photograph to cotton colour wrap by Lauren Day and finally woven textile designed by Jennifer Kent. The resulting textiles are evocations of mood and atmosphere derived from place, and light, tone and time. You do not need to know the locations to feel the echoes of land, sea, sky and elements. Colours have been observed at each stage, but they have also been felt and translated into creations with far deeper sensory resonances beyond sight. This particular blanket originated from Richard Gaston’s photograph of the enigmatic Quirang land formation on The Isle of Skye.
As well as The Quiraing, the Observing Colour series at Bard includes blankets based on Glencoul and St. Kilda too.
