Ingot Objects Large Dishes

‘Both the Tenmoku Dish and Kaki Dish have glazes whose characteristics rely on high amounts of iron oxide as part of the recipes,’ says Jonathan Wade of Ingot Objects. ‘The Kaki or persimmon glaze develops its complex variations and crystalline surface after the highest part of the firing, as the kiln cools. The Shino glaze shows it's variations best over a high-iron clay – it becomes a rich rust-coloured where thin, and gloss white where thicker. I had always thought that the dishes and platters might be displayed vertically to encourage a different approach from the viewer - that the intricacies of glaze surface are highlighted, on what is still a thoroughly utilitarian form.’
