These flagon sticks have a slightly elevated character compared to their amber cousins. The body of the flagon is raised off the table surface by three small feet. The freeform blue and white slip glazes add a rustic dose of debonair charm.
In Joshua’s words: “I aim to find balance between vitality and precision in my work. This is a constant exploration: I throw to a preconceived design idea, but with enough energy and movement that each piece is unique, and shows the marks of the making process. My intention is that the elements come together to speak clearly of my love of materials, and my desire to use traditional skills to reinterpret functional objects for a contemporary setting.”
What is your favourite aspect of Scottish winter?
“I love the fleeting clear winter days in Galloway. Every now and then we have a period of cold clear weather and the hills and forests are stunning. I find the damp dark weather a struggle, but there is perverse satisfaction in finding ways to live well amongst the dreich times!”
