Agnes Jones Handlestick

Agnes’s ‘Handlesticks’ are hand-forged steel works of wonder that stop you in your tracks when perspective aligns and the trompe l’oeil reveals itself. Each hand bears a candle and, as the sun goes down and darkness descends, the genius effect of the graphic line comes into play. They work particularly well against lighter backdrops where the linework stands out.

In Agnes’s own words: “I draw in steel, using this very structural material to create pieces that feel sketched in mid-air. These are hand forged pieces using traditional techniques such as hammering and bending using the dogs.”

What is your favourite aspect of Scottish winter? “I love watching the morning light sparkle on frosted grass. And also being cosy indoors with a fire and a hot toddy.”
