Our sgian dubhs are hand-forged by Jake Cleland of Skye Knives in his workshop on the Isle of Skye. For newcomers to highland dress, the sgian dubh, or “black knife” were historically used for small daily tasks, like an ancestor of the pen knife. Today they are an important part of highland dress, tucked into right hand sock of the wearer. Jake is a knife forger of global renown. For Bard, he has designed and forged a modern classic sgian dubh that is simultaneously contemporary and timeless. The hand-forged carbon steel blade is finished with a hand-carved bog oak handle and a mosaic pin. The blade is encased in a dark green leather sheaf.
