“These Tile Trivets bring together playfulness and practicality. We have called them Tile Trivets, but they can be free or fixed, decorative or useful. They can embellish a wall or hold a hot pan or act as a plinth for a cocktail. Encaustic tile-making dates back to medieval times. Terracotta and ochre tiles can still be found in the floors of early churches. The Victorians turned them into a high art form, using them to decorate stately homes and municipal buildings. A humble porch would be elevated with an encaustic tile floor.
