The ripple of the Sycamore in this bowl has an almost optical illusionary effect; what appears to be the eyes to be wrinkled is soft and smooth to the touch. It lends the bowl an otherworldly quality. It appears to shimmer in various lights. The generosity of its scale and graphic profile serve to reinforce its special aura. 

In Jonnie’s words: “A strikingly oversized bowl turned from a colossal billet of heavily-figured sycamore. The timber was from a tree which grew in North-East Fife, along the coast from my home. Seeing the rippled figure, I diverted from milling thinner slabs to salvage an oversize bowl blank, sensing the result would be something special. Carefully sanded to a silky finish, and treated with natural tung oil.”
